Travel & Cook in Central Italy

October 17 -24 - 2011

in Roma - Abruzzo - Marche -Umbria

With Chef Walter Potenza at Villa Susanna degli Ulivi in Abruzzo

Discover Roma - Abruzzo - Marche and Umbria

Ciao amici

Abruzzo is my birthplace and designed for foodies that enjoy sustainable products cultivated and made with love and pride. Discover why Abruzzo’s regional take on ’spaghetti’ can really be named after a guitar, savour Prosciutto di Basciano, a beautiful aged mountain ham dipped in garlic and chillies or Pecorino d’Abruzzo, stunning Gran Sasso Mountain cheese produced from sheep grazed on sweet juniper, mint and grass pastures high in the Apennines.

From Pan dell’Orso (Bear Bread) a delicious dessert bread to original confetti it is the best of Italian cooking with a little bit of can-can spice. Join our tour to three of Italy's most pristine regions, where local cooking traditions still reflect the area's peasant past and the beauty of the landscape remains much as it was hundreds of years ago.

Villa Susanna degli Ulivi Hotel in Colonnella Italy at right. Our homebase!

Silvery olive groves alternate with golden wheat fields; stretches of glimmering coastline beckon the eye beyond every curve; plump chilies hang over doorways of white-washed houses; narrow, maze-like streets lead to sandy beaches, quiet churches, solemn castles.

Our week-long cooking tour of Abruzzo, Marche and Umbria with a day in Roma will provide you full immersion in Central Italian food culture. We'll stay at a luxury four-star hotel Villa Susanna degli Ulivi in the quaint  village of Colonnella in the province of Teramo owned and operated by Sergio and Patrizia D'Addezi. Their honest and charming hospitality will forever impact your life.

On the opposite side of the city is the Malatesta Fortress. A fittingly mighty building completed in 1540. Originally Roman it was destroyed in 1944, but rebuilt with the original stones to its full grandeur.  Between the two is the fabulous Piazza del Popolo or People's Square with its famous porticoes dating from 1509.
